Maddie in Paris – Miss Boulton’s adventures in the city of lights… and love

Maddie Boulton may have just returned from Paris, but it seems the romance capital of the world didn’t leave her smitten. Word on the street? Maddie claims she needs men like fish need bicycles.

The past year was a bumpy ride for Maddie, who’s been overheard saying, “I’ve got 99 problems, and most of them are men.” Her grandmother, Ursula Boulton, decided it was high time for Maddie to escape the chaos of her small-town drama and head to Europe for a well-deserved break.

Grandma Ursula and her sister, Deb Boulton, had their joie de vivre moments in Paris back in the day—they were rumored to have been cha-cha dancers at a well-known musical venue in the heart of Paris—and Grandma Ursula figured it was Maddie’s turn to laissez-faire and live a little.

And so, Maddie went off to Paris. The result? A series of misadventures that sound straight out of a romantic comedy gone wrong.

“It was fun,” Maddie admitted to friends after the trip. (Well, she said it to me – sorry Maddie, but our readers live for these Boulton family scoops.)

“There was a mime in the square near my hotel,” Maddie shared. “He kept breaking character to mime his phone number at me. That guy was a total clown.”

But that wasn’t the end of it.

“There was this admittedly dashing chef at my local bistro,” she continued, “who made the best ratatouille I’ve ever had. But guess what? They shut down! Turns out there was a rat infestation in the kitchen! The guy seemed to have a pretty tight-knit friendship with them. Yuck.

Then, another sous chef arrived at the scene to distract Maddie from her wholesome Parisian plans.

“Another chef from a nearby restaurant started coming after me. Candlelit dinners by the Eiffel Tower, hot air balloon rides over the city. He even tried to convince me to stay in Paris and work for his friend’s brand agency. Apparently, they’re really, really into hearing American takes on French culture and brands. Who knew?”

But alas, Maddie’s Parisian escapades only made one thing more clear. “One thing’s for sure,” she declared, “I’m done with men—French or locally sourced. From now on, Rufus the dog is the only man in my life.”

“Self-care, hot yoga, cold swimming and chocolate chip cookies,” Maddie lists her focus points when asked about her plans for the near future.“That’s what I’m focusing on now. C’est fini.”
